Power Outage Shuts Down DMV Southwest and Georgetown Service Centers and Website Applications

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles Georgetown Service Center (located in the Shops in the Georgetown Park Mall - lower level) and Southwest Service Center (located at 95 M Street, SW) are now closed for transactions due to a power outage that has impacted a District of Columbia central data server rendering computer related driver licensing and vehicle registrations and renewal transactions inoperable. The outage also impacted data applications for the DMV Website thereby rendering Website transactions inoperable. Pepco is working on the power outage and technicians are working on the District’s servers. Currently, the assessment of when the data systems will be operational is 2:00 pm, however customers should call 311 and listen to media updates for any changes to the estimate or delays. Employees are on standby to re-open both Service Centers when the servers are back up and running. Both Service Centers opened as scheduled at 8:15 am today until the power outage occurred at approximately 11:40 am and took down the servers. The Georgetown and Southwest Service Centers normal hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 8:15 am until 4:00 pm and provide driver license and identification card applications/renewals and vehicle registrations/renewals services.

The Vehicle Inspection Station (located at 1001 Half Street, SW) has been minimally affected by the data system outage. Customers are able to have their vehicles inspected, but data printouts will not be available during this data system outage. The data printouts list the same information that the customer receives in their mailed notice for their inspection and vehicle registration renewal. The Vehicle Inspection Station opened on schedule at 7am and will be open until 3pm on a normal Saturday operating schedule.
