Director's Letter

To the Residents of the District of Columbia:

Although I have been a member of Team DMV for over seven years, I continue to be amazed at how far we have come as an agency and how far we still must travel. It is a constant struggle to balance our regulatory requirements for licensing, registration, inspection and adjudication services with our goal of service excellence. We have adopted the "Find the Simple Legal Yes" philosophy....as long as it is legal, we will look for ways to resolve your issues and provide you service excellence.

We are also looking for innovative ways to improve our processes and further enhance our service delivery. To date, we have provided you with a new queuing system, an enhanced knowledge test, an online ticket e-mail alert service, the ability to schedule inspection appointments online, the ability to submit adjudication requests online and temporary registration, license and identification certificates for online transactions. We are currently looking at ways to "do more with less" as it relates to the District's current financial situation. Additionally, although we are a public safety agency, we are exploring our role in supporting the Gray Administration's other three priorities, in the areas of jobs, fiscal stability and education.

In an effort to improve government transparency and increased participation/collaboration of the public in government decisions, we invite you to view the latest DMV news, testimonies and reports in the newsroom of our website. Also, we know you have great ideas and recommendations to streamline operations and save money, so I encourage you to submit any suggestions to me by email at lucinda.babers@dc.gov.

I am tickled pink to continue serving the residents of this great city, One City, One Government, One Voice, in which I live, and I look forward to ensuring we meet or exceed your expectations.
