Learner's Permit Renewal (Gradual Rearing of Adult Drivers ONLY)

If you are 21 years or older, learner’s permits are non-renewable. If an existing learner’s permit is expired, you must re-take the knowledge test to obtain a new learner’s permit.

Learner’s permits are valid for one (1) year.

GRAD Only (age 16-20 years)

If your learner permit expires before you are able to move to the next stage (provisional driver license, if under age 21), you may renew your learner's permit within 90 days of expiration to avoid taking knowledge test again.

The Document Verification Guide will assist you with determining which documents you will need to collect and bring to DC DMV. Click here to begin.
