How do I renew my CDL?
You must present the following original documents and pay applicable
fees to renew your driver's license in person at any DMV service
location. We regret that we cannot accept photocopies or scanned
documents. To renew your DC CDL you must visit the DMV office at 1205 Brentwood Road NE.
The Patriot Act, Public Law 108-458, National Intelligence Reform Act of
2004 does NOT allow for social security numbers to be displayed on driver
licenses or identification cards.
- Driver's License/Voter Registration Application*
- A US Department of Transportation Medical Form and Card completed by a physician
- Current DC CDL
- Change of Name or Change of Address documentation, if applicable
How do I convert it from another state?
A licensed commercial driver who moves to the District from another jurisdiction
must convert a valid out-of-state commercial driver's
license to a DC commercial driver's license if remaining in DC for more than 30 days. A DC commercial driver's
license is valid for up to five years for US citizens and may vary
for non-US citizens(according to the US immigration expiration date).
To convert your out of state commercial driver's license you must visit the
DMV office at 1205 Brentwood Road NE.

You must be a resident of DC
You must be clear of all outstanding debts to the District of Columbia
You must have a valid CDL from another jurisdiction
You must have a proof of identity
You must have a Social Security Number
You must have a proof of current residency
You must have an ability to drive
Steps
- Complete the Driver's
License Application*
- Provide the required documents
- Take and pass the vision test
- Take a photograph
- Pay the appropriate fees
- Surrender your out of state CDL
- Obtain your DC commercial driver's license.
