Duplicate Drivers License

If your driver license has been damaged, lost or stolen, you can obtain a duplicate driver license. The DMV makes obtaining a duplicate driver license convenient by offering the service online or at a DMV service location. If you visit a DMV service location to obtain a duplicate, a new digital photo will be taken.

The Patriot Act, Public Law 108-458, National Intelligence Reform Act of 2004 does NOT allow for social security numbers to be displayed on driver licenses or identification cards.

Requirements
Bring the following documents with you and be prepared to pay the applicable fees.

Note: If you are holding a provisional driver license, you please refer to provisional driver license replacement.

We regret that we cannot accept photocopies or scanned documents.

Non-US Citizens may obtain a duplicate driver license and renew their license at any DMV service center.

The Document Verification Guide will assist you with determining which documents you will need to collect and bring to DC DMV. Click here to begin.
