Hearing Requests

What if I miss my scheduled hearing date?

If you fail to appear for your scheduled hearing, you may be found liable for the violation indicated on your ticket. You will then be required to pay the fine and be assessed any points associated with the violation.

The DMV rarely reschedules missed hearings. You must submit a written explanation for failing to appear at your hearing. You may complete and submit a Motion to Vacate Judgment* to Adjudication Services. Your Motion will be reviewed to determine whether you have offered good cause for the missed appearance. Supporting documentation should be submitted with your Motion. However, your Motion to Vacate Judgment must be received within 60 calendar days of the missed hearing date.

You may submit your Motion and any supporting documents to Adjudication in person or by mail to :

     Attn: DMV Scheduling Unit
     PO Box 37135
     Washington, DC 20013

You will receive a written response within six months.
