To qualify for a reciprocity permit you must meet the following
criteria, have the documents listed below and pay applicable permit
fees:
Full-time student attending
a college or university in District of Columbia
This type of permit is valid for one year
and is renewable.
- Statement from registrar's office on the college's or university's
letterhead stating that you are a full time student
- Valid out-of-state driver's license
- Valid out-of-state vehicle registration with student's name
on the registration
- Proof of Insurance with student's name on the insurance as required
by the issuing registration jurisdiction.
- Proof
of DC residency
Note: DC law prevents students in Advisory Neighborhood
Commission (ANC) areas 2A and 2E and ANC 3D06 and 3D09 (Georgetown
area) from receiving reciprocity parking permits. Students in
these areas must get a DC driver's license and register their
vehicles in the District in order to be able to park in those

- If you live on a street zoned for residential parking, as indicated
by a two-hour residential restriction sign on your block, you
may obtain a residential parking permit (RPP) for an additional
fee.
A member of Congress or on
the personal staff of a member of Congress
This type of permit is valid for one year
and is renewable.
- Statement on the office of a member of Congress letterhead stating
that you are a personal staff member
- Valid out-of-state driver's license
- Legal residents, and their motor vehicles bear registration tags, of the domestic jurisdiction being represented by a Member of Congress
- Valid out-of-state vehicle registration with personal staff
member's name on registration.
- Proof of Insurance with personal staff member's name on insurance
as required by the issuing registration jurisdiction
- Proof
of DC residency
- If you live on a street zoned for residential parking, as indicated
by a two-hour residential restriction sign on your block, you
may obtain a residential parking permit (RPP) for an additional
fee.
US military personnel on
active duty
This type of permit is valid for one
year and is renewable.
- Valid Military Identification or Military Orders
- Valid out-of-state driver's license
- Valid out-of-state vehicle registration with active duty military
member's name on registration
- Proof of Insurance with active duty military member's name
on insurance as required by the issuing registration
- Proof of Insurance as required by the issuing registration
jurisdiction
- Proof
of DC residency
- If you live on a street zoned
for residential parking, as indicated by a two-hour residential
restriction sign on your block, you may obtain a residential
parking permit (RPP) for an additional fee.
Temporary DC Resident
This type of permit is valid for six
months and is NOT renewable.
- Valid out-of-state driver's license
- Valid out-of-state vehicle registration with temporary DC
resident's name on registration
- Proof of Insurance with temporary DC resident's name on insurance
as required by the issuing registration jurisdiction
- Proof of Insurance as required by the issuing registration
jurisdiction
- Proof
of DC residency

Diplomat
This type of permit is valid for one
or two years and is renewable.
- Valid Department of State vehicle registration and driver’s
license
- Proof of Insurance with Diplomat's name on insurance
